What’s good everyone!

Dr. Renee is joining me on this episode. I decided to shake things up a bit and discuss something controversial. Damon “Dame” Dash is an American entrepreneur, record executive, film producer and is best known for co-founding Roc-A-Fella records. For a significant time, he served as Jay-Z’s manager and business partner.

Several years ago, Dame Dash came on the popular radio talk show The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 to discuss a new movie. To anyone who isn’t familiar with the talk show, it’s not your typical morning show and if you’re a guest, you definitely can’t prepare for the questions you will face on the show. Let’s just say it turned into a heated talk about employment versus entrepreneurship and other things you should listen to in your home and not at work.

On this episode, Dr. Renee and I break down this conversation for you from a doctor’s perspective. There are mad nuggets that Dame drops about employment that we think you all can learn from and we go through each one by one. His thoughts are controversial, but this is Docs Outside the Box – and that’s what we do!

  1. You and your wife are a great podcasting duo! Very interesting subject made me think a lot about the way we do business. I am a obgyn partner in a single specialty group I started with 4 other like minded women. I wish you would explore an episode about docs who go into practice for themselves. The “kids” coming out these days just assume they will be employed and I wish they would know the value of being the boss. It’s soo much more work but just the thought of your example of the office manager being the boss made me cringe. In my 30 yr career I have seen the pendulum swing a few times with hospitals buying practices and I think, no hope, it is starting to go back to docs owning their practices. I think it is a little different in our specialty because so much of our business is word of mouth. Will listen to the Dame Dash interview for sure. Keep up the good work! And can you post in show notes the reading that your guests have recommended?
